Say hello to the winner of the 2013 Song Contest, Bacon Sizzle by Mark Haugen!

Her highness, Kim Pfannebecker, blew away the competition at the 2013 Bacon Queen Pageant held at Johnny’s Hall of Fame in Des Moines, IA. Her knowledge of bacon was extensive and her talented bacon-rap brought down the house. Before being crowned, she dashed into the kitchen to slip into the world’s first bacon couture dress, created by fashion designer Sarah Dornink. Needless, to say…Bacon Queen Kim sizzled that night.

Since the inaugural festival in 2008, the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival’s Amateur Bacon Eating Competition has mesmerized audiences and inspired viral YouTube videos. Each contestant begins with a plate of cooked bacon weighing 3 lbs. When Seth Hall, the man on the bullhorn, shouts, “Go!” aspiring eating athletes attempt to devour the pile of goodness. The crispy bacon tests the roofs of their mouths, their jaws, but most importantly…their courage.
In 2013, Molly Schuyler, a slender mother-of-four managed to demolish the competition. Mrs Schuyler, 33, from Bellevue, Nebraska, crushed the record for being the first person to eat all 3 lbs of cooked bacon within less than the 5 minute time allotted.
The Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival is not only about sampling quality bacon but is also a competition. Bacon Purveyors enter their bacons to be judged by the festival’s Professional Judge Panel. Festival attendees can also sample bacon entered in the competition throughout the day.
The Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival invites industry professionals from around the nation to sit together in small groups and, without knowing the brand name, taste bacons in each specified style category. The ultimate goal of the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival Judge Panel is to identify the three bacons that best represent each style category as described and adopted by the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival.
The Professional Judge Panel awards blue, red or white ribbons that are recognized around the world as symbols of bacon excellence. These awards are among the most coveted in the industry and heralded by the winning bacon purveyors.
